Wedding Guest Attire: Dos and Don'ts

“Please pay attention to the wedding guest dress code” – Styled.by.Si

Considering that we are in mandatory quarantine, weddings will look a lot different than they ever have before. The large wedding guest list may become nonexistent and more intimate weddings will become the norm. I am amongst many other brides-to-be that had to postpone their weddings this year and possibly downsize the wedding guest list. As long as I can still marry the love of my life, a small or big wedding doesn’t matter.

When we started to plan our wedding, we were asked about what was okay to wear to the ceremony and reception. I was surprised that some people didn’t know that they shouldn’t wear certain things. I have been a guest at several weddings and seen people not practicing good wedding etiquette by not following the dress code. That is a pet peeve of mine and I will save those stories for another post lol.

If you are a wedding guest at a wedding in the future, please pay attention to the dress code and follow the below dos and don’ts. Trust me it will keep the bride and groom happy and prevents you from possibly getting embarrassed lol.

Wedding Guest Don’ts

1.     Do not wear white, cream, or ivory.

2.     Do not wear jeans.

3.     Do not wear anything too revealing.

4.     Do not wear the same color as the wedding party.

5.     Do not upstage the bride with over the top prints.

Wedding Guest Dos

1.     Do pay attention to the dress code (semi-formal, formal, or casual).

2.     Do wear comfortable shoes.

3.     Do check the weather so that you can dress accordingly.

4.     Do choose bold accessories.

5.     Do get your makeup and hair done.

I hope these tips are helpful for you when attending a wedding! Now you don’t have to worry about getting a side eye from the bride and groom for not following the rules lol.
