2019 Met Gala - My Top 5 Favorite Looks

The 2019 Met Gala theme was “Camp: Notes on Fashion” which is based on Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay. “Camp” provides the framework for how irony, humor, parody, pastiche, artifice, theatricality, and exaggeration are expressed in fashion. Of course, everyone has a different interpretation of who fit the aesthetic at the 2019 Met Gala, so I decided to rise to the occasion to give my personal opinion.

We saw some of the most iconic looks displayed on the red carpet; however, there were also some looks that were really blah. That is one thing about fashion and style, you can determine your own style but fashion is dictated by everyone else which can be good and bad.

TOP 5 FAVORITE LOOKS

Naomi Campbell in Valentino Haute Couture

Naomi is wearing a lilac ensemble designed by Valentino Haute Couture which consists of a long, feathered cape, plunging neckline, flowy dress, lace tights, and single strap heels with diamond accessories. Naomi always looks stunning and amazing in everything that she wears!

Cardi B in Thom Browne

I absolutely love Cardi B’s outfit which was styled by Kollin Carter! Her dress took 3,000 hours and 35 people to create it! The train of her dress is three feet long by itself. Great looks take time to say the least. She really shut down the pink carpet when she made her appearance in this eye-catching Thom Browne feather dress.

Janelle Monae in Christian Siriano

I always expect to see Janelle Monae in fun, couture pieces and that is exactly what she gave us at the Met Gala! She was dressed by the talented Christian Siriano. Janelle’s outfit channels a surrealist painting with an eye on her chest that actually fluttered, an eye-shaped clutch, and red lips on the hot pink and white skirt. Let’s not forget the tower of hats that she balanced with ease on the pink carpet.

Christian Siriano designed her outfit so that she could quickly change for the after-party! A quick removal of the skirt and voila! after-party ready!

Gigi Hadid in Michael Kors

Gigi looks like a beautiful ice queen! She wore a white, gold, and silver catsuit with a matching headpiece and feathered coat designed by Michael Kors. The embellished eyelashes really set the outfit off in my opinion!

Jennifer Lopez in Versace

Jennifer Lopez had another moment like she did 20 years ago….wearing Versace! She literally dripped in crystals in the Versace plunging neckline dress with a thigh-high split and matching headpiece. Her iridescent platform heels, diamond bracelets, and silver clutch were accessorized to perfection. The entire look is one word “COLD”.
