How to Prepare for a Photoshoot

As a content creator, photoshoots are very important as they provide the visuals needed for people to understand your concept. In order to have a successful photoshoot, it is vital that you take advantage of the time you have to take pictures. When I mention “take advantage”, I mean that you need to use your time wisely and get your money’s worth during your session. Plainly speaking, make sure you are prepared!

I am guilty of not being prepared for photoshoots and it definitely shaved off some off my shooting time for that reason. Later, I realized the importance of preparation when it comes to photoshoots because things will go a lot smoother if you have a system in place instead of frantically trying to figure things out at the last minute. I know that I am not that the only one that has been in this position, so I am sharing a few tips that have helped me prepare for my photoshoots.

1.     Talk to your photographer about your concept, decide on a location to shoot, and how long you will shoot.

2.     Put your outfits together which includes shoes, bags/purses, and accessories. Send pictures of your outfits to the photographer as well.

3.     Steam your clothes to get the wrinkles out because wrinkly clothing will show up on camera. Be sure to put them in a garment bag

4.     Make plans to already have your hair done before the day of your shoot and get your makeup done a few hours prior to your shoot if possible.

5.     Have a plan for where you will change clothes. You can either change in your car, a public restroom, or in pop-up changing tent.

6.     Most importantly, already have an idea of what poses you want to execute during your photoshoot. Practicing your poses in the mirror at home before your photoshoot will help too.

I hope you find the above tips helpful when you are preparing for a photoshoot!
